  • Knicks PG Jalen Brunson won Clutch Player of the Year in 2024-25.

New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson was named the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year for the 2024-25 campaign, becoming the first Eastern Conference player to win the award in the three-year history of this accolade.

Brunson averaged an NBA-best 5.6 points in clutch situations, which are defined as possessions in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points.

He finished second in total points (156) scored in the clutch, marking the first time a player won this award without leading that metric.

Who Will Win NBA Clutch Player of the Year in 2026?

Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham is the favorite to win the Clutch Player of the Year award. His +260 odds give him an implied probability of 27.78%.

Cunningham is the third different favorite in this market since the season began. He passed Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who leads the league in total points scored in the clutch thus far.

SGA passed Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, who began as the betting favorite after leading all players with 157 total points scored in the clutch last year. He became the first player to lead the league in this metric without winning the Clutch Player of the Year award.

De’Aaron Fox won the first Clutch Player of the Year award after posting an NBA-best 194 points in the clutch, while Stephen Curry claimed the honor in 2023-24 after pacing the league with 198 points in the clutch.

A significant reason Brunson won the award over Edwards was the disparity in the volume of their work. Brunson only needed 28 games to score 156 points, while Edwards played in 42 contests that featured clutch minutes.

Still, I’d suggest monitoring the leaderboard throughout the season to find value in the Clutch Player of the Year market. Edwards was trading as long as 55/1 in the final weeks before finishing as a finalist in last year’s race.

For this market, I prefer players who command the ball in crunch time, on a team that is good enough to be competitive in most games but not so good that it will blow out many opponents. It’s a delicate balance to navigate.

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama checked those boxes at an immense value of +10000 in the preseason. However, his injury spoiled that possibility.

Based on the current odds, Tyrese Maxey’s +650 price tag stands out the most. He’s third with 73 total points in the clutch so far this year.

Prediction: Tyrese Maxey
