Despite a coaching change, the New York Knicks are expected to start the 2025-26 season with the exact win total they had last year, 53.5, according to the latest NBA betting lines at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

Under Tom Thibodeau, New York finished 51-31 last year. Will Mike Brown add a few more wins to this year’s team?

Knicks Over/Under Wins 2025-26

  • Over 53.5 wins: -105
  • Under 53.5 wins: -115

Knicks Win Total Prediction

  • Over 53.5 wins

The Knicks moved on from Thibodeau after consecutive 50-win campaigns and a trip to the Eastern Conference finals. While Brown was brought in to guide a deeper playoff run, he will be judged on wins this regular season.

In reality, it doesn’t matter how many wins the Knicks earn under Brown this season. I care more about them demonstrating an offensive system with more ball movement and a deeper trust in the bench to keep the starters fresh for the postseason.

Fortunately for New York, Brown can help in both aspects.

During his first season (2022-23) as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, Brown led a No. 1 offense in the league. The Kings were seventh with an assist rate of 62.6% and ninth in bench scoring at 37.3 points per contest.

I used Brown’s first season at his last stop as an example to illustrate how quickly he can make an impact. The Knicks should prioritize optimizing their system under Brown in hopes of reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.

That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the wins come right away in an East that is more vulnerable at the top. New York appears to be Cleveland’s biggest threat as the best team in the conference. Last year, the Boston Celtics won 61 games as the No. 2 seed in the East.

New York might not finish with that many wins, but I’m predicting it will clear its preseason over/under.
