The Charlotte Hornets start the 2025-26 season with a win total of 27.5 at the BetMGM online sportsbook.

The Hornets are coming off a 19-63 campaign, missing the playoffs for the ninth straight year. They haven’t won a playoff series since 2002.

Hornets Over/Under Wins 2025-26

  • Over 27.5 wins: -115
  • Under 27.5 wins: -105

Hornets Win Total Prediction

  • Under 27.5 wins

It was earlier in the summer, but I recall seeing one social media account ask if the Hornets could be a sleeper this year, if they added a center.

The problem is, Charlotte traded away every center it had to build its roster this offseason.

The Hornets traded away Mark Williams (this time successfully) to the Phoenix Suns, landing a pair of first-round picks in the process. Charlotte also sent Jusuf Nurkic in exchange for Collin Sexton.

As a result, the Hornets’ center rotation now features Moussa Diabate, Mason Plumlee, and second-rounder Ryan Kalkbrenner. It is one of the worst center rotations in the league for a team that hasn’t been above-average defensively since at least 2016.

I can understand an argument for Hornets games being more exciting this year, but I’d be surprised if that led to a lot of wins.

Charlotte’s franchise player, LaMelo Ball, played just 47 games last year. He has been limited to 105 games in the previous three years. Brandon Miller also dealt with injuries last season, playing 27 contests.

Even if the Hornets improve their health, I don’t see a path to many wins. They have averaged 22.3 victories over the last three years, and it would be in their best interest to tank harder for an elite draft class.
