Betting on MLB moneylines is straightforward. Just pick the team you think will win. Run line betting, however, adds a layer of complexity.

If a team is listed at +1.5 on the run line in BetMGM’s MLB odds, they’re likely the underdog. The specific odds (or vig) can vary by matchup, but the outcome is based on the final score, including extra innings.

To win a +1.5 run line bet, the team must either win outright or lose by only one run. If they lose by two or more, the bet is a loss.

Example of +1.5 Run Line in MLB Betting

New York Mets (+1.5, -185) at Boston Red Sox (-1.5, +150)

In this scenario, the Mets are +120 moneyline underdogs in their road game against the Red Sox. But they have minus odds to cover the run line of +1.5, with their -185 value at staying within one run or winning the game outright.

The Red Sox, meanwhile, are +150 to win by multiple runs.

If someone bets on the Mets’ run line, they’d need them to win the game outright or lose by only one run. Any other scenario would result in a loss.

Here are some examples:

  • Red Sox 5, Mets 4: New York covers.
  • Mets 6, Red Sox 5: New York covers.
  • Red Sox 5, New York 3: Boston covers.

Payout for +1.5 Run Line in MLB Betting

The odds accompanying the run line will determine the payout. They will vary based on the vig.

In the above Mets-Red Sox scenario, the -185 odds on New York’s run line means a $10 bet would net $5.41 in profit. The bet would return a total of $15.41, including the stake.

As for Boston’s side of the wager, a $10 bet would lead to $15 of winnings. The bet would return a payout of $25, including the stake.
