Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction: Game 2 AL Wild Card Preview

  • Get MLB expert picks and analysis for Red Sox vs. Yankees.
  • The Yankees are -185 favorites in Game 2.
  • Boston is -185 to win the series.

After an upset win in Game 1, the Boston Red Sox can claim their first postseason series victory since 2021 during Game 2 of the AL Wild Card against the New York Yankees at 6:08 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium.

The Red Sox rallied for a 3-1 victory on Tuesday to support a gem by Garrett Crochet, who spun 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball. He struck out 11 batters before Aroldis Chapman tallied the four-out save, helping Boston come through as a +115 underdog.

New York is a -185 favorite to keep its season alive on Wednesday.

Here’s a look at the latest MLB odds and my Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction ahead of Game 2:

Red Sox vs. Yankees Odds for Game 2

  • Red Sox moneyline: +150
  • Yankees moneyline: -185
  • Total: 7.5

Red Sox vs. Yankees Prediction for Game 2

My Red Sox vs. Yankees prediction suggests taking the under on Boston’s team total (3.5). I think there is value on the under for the full-game line (7.5) as well.

If the first day was any indication, scoring will be much more difficult in the postseason. There were a combined 11 runs scored in the first three games, including four in Boston’s 3-1 victory over New York.

As a result, the market adjusted to the Game 2 totals. The over/under has dropped to 6.5 in the first two games, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see this Red Sox vs. Yankees total drop down to seven before first pitch.

That said, I prefer to take the under on the Red Sox’s team total in a matchup against left-hander Carlos Rodón. He went 18-9 with a 3.09 ERA in 33 starts this year, which includes a 2.98 ERA at Yankee Stadium.

Boston was above-average against lefties this year, posting a wRC+ of 103.

However, this lineup has cooled off since losing Roman Anthony in early September. The Red Sox averaged 4.2 runs per game after Anthony went down, ranking 19th in all of baseball.

I like Boston to finish with three or fewer runs in Game 2.

Prediction: Red Sox under 3.5 runs (-135) – Pick made Tuesday
