After consecutive NLCS appearances in 2022 and 2023, the Philadelphia Phillies were eliminated in the NLDS with a better team following their 95-67 campaign.

The Phillies are still viewed as one of the top contenders this season, seeking their first World Series victory since 2008.

Phillies Depth Chart 2025

According to RosterResource, the Phillies improved their 2025 depth chart with a few notable additions this offseason.

Philadelphia signed closer Jordan Romano to a one-year, $8.5 million deal. The team also traded for Jesús Luzardo to provide even more depth to one of the deepest rotations in baseball.

Outfielder Max Kepler was brought in as the lone offensive upgrade.

Phillies Player to Watch in 2025

Jordan Romano is my (perhaps surprising) pick for the player to watch on the Phillies in 2025.

This says more about the Phillies, who are a boring team to preview. In a good way. Their roster is full of established veterans, and they didn’t add much to a team that was talented enough to win the World Series.

But I’m curious to see how Romano performs as Philadelphia’s closer. Although he pitched only 13 2/3 innings in 2024, he recorded 36 saves in back-to-back seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022 and 2023.

Romano is +1800 to be the NL Reliever of the Year, which could be valuable if he bounces back this season.

Phillies Betting Prediction for 2025

Based on the updated MLB odds market, I predict the Phillies will finish below their win total (91.5) in 2025.

The Phillies have cleared their win total in four straight seasons, but the market has finally caught up to them. I’m fading their highest preseason win total since they had an over/under of 93.5 before finishing with 81 wins in 2012.

Philadelphia won’t drop off that much this season, but the NL East will be more difficult. The Atlanta Braves should return to form with better health, while the New York Mets added Juan Soto following last year’s NLCS appearance.

The Phillies looked like the best baseball team when they started the year 62-34, but their 33-33 record in the second half suggests they were playing over their heads.

PECOTA projects 85.2 wins, while FanGraphs forecasts 87 victories. This under is playable at 90.5 or better.
