My favorite over/under pick today is over 3.5 runs (-115) for the Houston Astros’ team total in Monday’s meeting with the Detroit Tigers.
I’m fading Detroit starter Jack Flaherty, who has allowed 11 runs on 16 hits over his past two outings. He’s given up three-plus earned runs in three of his previous five matchups, pushing his season-long numbers up to 6-12 with a 4.76 ERA.
Flaherty has struggled with his command, as his walk rate has nearly doubled since last year. That doesn’t bode well against an Astros team that ranks 11th in the league in on-base percentage.
MLB Moneyline Picks Today
As my favorite MLB moneyline pick today, I like the Kansas City Royals (-125) to earn a crucial win over the Texas Rangers in Kauffman Stadium.
This is the start of an important series for the MLB playoff picture, with both teams clinging to their last bit of hope of making a push. The Rangers are 5.5 games back of the final wild-card spot, while the Royals are four games behind after a sweep of the Chicago White Sox.
Ballpark Pal’s model gives Kansas City a 60.1% chance of victory, listing a fair price of -151. There is value in backing the hot team with Michael Wacha on the mound. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a start since July 5.
