Bo Bichette Next Team: Will Talented Infielder Stay in Toronto?

Thanks to his age and excellent contact skills, infielder Bo Bichette is one of the top MLB free agents this offseason.

Bichette, who will be 28 years old on Opening Day, has been with the Toronto Blue Jays since making his debut in 2019. He’s posted a bWAR of 21 in seven years with the only team he’s ever known.

It seems unimaginable for Bichette to leave the Blue Jays after they just reached Game 7 of the World Series. However, this could be his opportunity to secure a massive contract after battling injuries in recent years.

So, where will Bichette play in 2026?

Bo Bichette Next Team Odds & Favorites

The BetMGM online sportsbook doesn’t offer a market on Bichette’s next team, but the Blue Jays seem like the favorites to re-sign him.

A reunion just makes too much sense on paper.

Toronto has been active in free agency after coming so close to its first World Series crown since 1993. The Blue Jays have signed right-handed starter Dylan Cease and right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers. They now have the third-highest payroll in the league.

Following those pitching additions, the Blue Jays can’t afford to take a step back on offense. They posted the best batting average (.265) in the league in 2025, as their lineup was filled with contact hitters like Bichette.

One way I could see Bichette not returning to Toronto is if the front office prioritizes landing Kyle Tucker instead. MLB Trade Rumors has Tucker and Bichette as the top two free agents this offseason, projecting a $400 million contract for the former and a $208 million deal for the latter.

Do the Blue Jays have the stomach to spend that much in one winter? They’ve already given Cease $210 million and Rogers $36 million.

If Bichette were to leave Toronto, I could see the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Los Angeles Dodgers being among the top contenders for his services.

Bo Bichette Next Team Prediction

As detailed above, Bichette returning to Toronto on a long-term deal is the most likely outcome.

In previous offseasons, the Blue Jays have come up short on multiple marquee free agents. You may remember a Shohei Ohtani flight that never was in the days leading up to his mega-deal with the Dodgers.

Toronto has to retain its top players, particularly after the team came so close to winning the World Series with this core.

Bichette’s health is a reasonable concern for anyone willing to give him a huge deal, but the Blue Jays have a better understanding of that than anyone else.

A sprained PCL in his knee ended Bichette’s regular season on Sept. 6. He didn’t make his return until the World Series, but the bat held up in the series (8-for-23), including a three-run homer in Game 7.

Before his injury in early September, Bichette had put together quite the campaign. He hit .311 and posted the lowest strikeout rate (14.5%) of his career. His wRC+ of 134 ranked 20th in the majors, which included a stretch where he sat second with a wRC+ of 187 over the final two months.

Given his health and defensive numbers at shortstop, Bichette is staring down an inevitable move to second base. He did that during the Fall Classic, while Andrés Giménez played shortstop.

Assuming he’s open to that being a permanent move, a reunion with the Blue Jays makes the most sense for Bichette.
