  • The Guardians' Stephen Vogt won AL Manager of the Year in 2025.
  • The Brewers' Pat Murphy won the award in the NL.
  • Every winner since 2012 has made it to the postseason.

Stephen Vogt and Pat Murphy have gotten used to winning Manager of the Year awards to start their respective careers.

Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians won the American League Manager of the Year award, while Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers secured the same honor in the National League. This comes after they won the same trophies in their debut campaigns in 2024.

In addition, their selections continued an impressive streak for this award. Since 2012, all 28 Manager of the Year winners have reached the playoffs. Of that group, 22 led teams that had missed the postseason the previous year.

MLB odds for the 2026 Manager of the Year races won’t be available until later in the offseason, but there are several potential candidates capable of dethroning Vogt and Murphy.

AL Manager of the Year Odds 2026: Favorites

It seems unlikely that Vogt will begin as the AL Manager of the Year favorite after winning this award twice in his first two seasons in Cleveland. For context, he entered the 2025 campaign as a +1600 long shot in this market.

Vogt is just the second AL manager to win this award in back-to-back seasons, joining Kevin Cash, who accomplished the feat with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020 and 2021.

Vogt guided the Guardians to a second straight division title, erasing a 15.5-game deficit to win the AL Central over the Detroit Tigers. It marked the largest deficit a team has overcome to win a division since 1969.

Had it not been for that epic comeback, someone else would have won this award. Four different managers received at least one first-place vote, led by 17 for Vogt. Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider earned 10 first-place votes, followed by the Seattle Mariners’ Dan Wilson (two) and the Boston Red Sox’s Alex Cora (one).

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, who began the year as the favorite, finished fifth in the race with one second-place vote and three third-place votes.

No manager has won this award three years in a row, so I’m guessing Vogt will be a long shot in this market in 2026. Of the teams that missed the playoffs in 2025, the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers stand out as potential surprises.

Matt Quatraro has been the Royals’ skipper for the last three years, while the Rangers recently hired Skip Schumaker to replace Bruce Bochy. Schumaker won NL Manager of the Year in 2023 for the Miami Marlins, so voters clearly believe in him.

Prediction: Skip Schumaker

NL Manager of the Year Odds 2026: Favorites

I wouldn’t be surprised if Murphy is near the top of this market when it’s released later in the offseason. He began as a +1500 long shot in 2025.

At some point, the market will get tired of counting out the Brewers. They posted the best record in baseball last year, winning the NL Central for a third straight season. They’ve made the playoffs in seven of the past eight years.

Milwaukee continues to operate on a lower budget while competing in a league with some of the most expensive rosters in baseball. The Brewers have won 92-plus games in three straight seasons, including 97 victories last year.

Still, it’s worth reiterating that no manager has won this award for three consecutive campaigns. Bobby Cox is the only repeat winner in NL history, claiming the honor for the Atlanta Braves in 2004 and 2005.

Speaking of the Braves, Walt Weiss could be a potential option in this market. He was promoted from bench coach this offseason, replacing Brian Snitker. If he guides Atlanta back to the playoffs (and perhaps a NL East crown), Weiss will be in the mix for Manager of the Year.

I’m also intrigued by the San Francisco Giants’ new manager, Tony Vitello, who comes from the collegiate ranks at Tennessee. Vitello is the first college coach to move directly to the majors without previous pro experience.

If Vitello can lead the Giants to the postseason for the first time since 2021 in his debut season, he’d have an easy case for Manager of the Year.

Prediction: Tony Vitello
