  • The Eastbourne Open is the last grass warmup in England before Wimbledon.
  • The total prize purse for the men at Eastbourne is more than $800,000.
  • At Eastbourne, the ATP prize purse is larger than its WTA counterpart.

The UK is the epicenter of the tour’s short grass season, which ends with Wimbledon in early July. Many high-ranking pros elect to spend June bouncing around at the various grass warmup tournaments scattered across England.

For those staying on the island, the final tournament before Wimbledon is the draw at Eastbourne – a suitably British-sounding place.

The Lexus Eastbourne Open is a joint tour event, meaning it features both a men’s draw and a women’s draw.

On the men’s side, Eastbourne has been a great tournament for American Taylor Fritz, who has won the singles tournament in three of its last five years.

On the women’s side, fans will be cheering for several British wild-card players, including Harriet Dart and Francesca Jones.

Eastbourne has an uneven prize split. The women used to make slightly more than the men here, since the men were playing a 250-point event amid the WTA’s 500-point event. With both tournaments going off at the 250-point level this year, the men’s purse is now higher than the women’s – a feature that’s still pretty common in British tournaments beyond Wimbledon.

Overall, the men are playing for a prize purse of €756,875, while the women are playing for about €337,000.
