Oregon is hitting the road for its first road game in the Midwest as a Big Ten team.Â
As you probably know, the game comes on the heels of Saturday night’s season-changing win over Ohio State. The Ducks are now atop the Big Ten standings alongside Indiana and Penn State.
Oregon’s market assessment is now at a high point for this season, at least in terms of week-to-week college football odds. Oregon opened the week as a 28.5-point favorite, which is its largest point spread against an FBS team this year.Â
Oregon deserves to be a big favorite against Purdue, which is winless in Big Ten play and has yet to beat an FBS team this season.Â
The problem is that Oregon has been a lousy cover team in 2024. The Ducks played up to Ohio State, but they’ve also felt sluggish and stuck in second gear against lesser opponents this year.Â
This is an Oregon team that beat Idaho by 10, Boise State by three, UCLA & Michigan State by 21 apiece. None of those results were covers. Oregon is 0-3 ATS this season as a favorite of at least three touchdowns.

I am predicting a Purdue cover on Friday night.
I don’t think the Boilermakers are a good football team, and forcing overtime at Illinois is not going to change my mind. But Oregon’s lousy 2024 track record as a big favorite makes it clear that I want the Purdue side of this game.
The Ducks will likely be a big public target on Friday night. I’m happy to zag against them in a prime letdown spot on a short week.Â
I bought this early at +28.5, but I would still play it at the current +27.5 number.Â
