Tim Lester is the offensive coordinator at Iowa.Â
Lester joined the staff in 2024. The previous OC was head coach Kirk Ferentz’s son Brian, whose Hawkeye offense was quite bad.
Ferentz may be at the top of the list of longest-tenured coaches in college football, but Iowa’s offensive ineptitude was so universally memed that he had no choice but to bring in a replacement.
Lester is unusually experienced for an offensive coordinator. He’s been a head coach at Division II Saint Joseph’s in Indiana (2004) and Division III Elmhurst (2008-12). Most recently, he succeeded PJ Fleck as the head coach at Western Michigan (2017-22) before joining the Green Bay Packers as an analyst in 2023.Â
Lester’s most recent offensive coordinator role was at Syracuse (2014-15).Â
Brian Ferentz worked as Iowa’s offensive coordinator from 2017-23. Before that, Greg Davis (2012-16) and Ken O’Keefe (1999-2011) ran the Hawkeyes’ offense during the earlier sections of the Kirk Ferentz era.
