In 2024, the average college football salary for an FBS head coach is about $3.76 million.

The number is inflated by how much top-end coaches make. Of the 125 known FBS salaries, the median salary is about $2.5 million.

The overall salary list shows some pretty wild variance. The highest-paid college football coaches, like Kirby Smart and Steve Sarkesian, now make more than $10 million per year.

Meanwhile, the least-paid coach on the list – Kennesaw State’s Brian Bohannon – made $376,000.

College football head coaches at the FCS, Division II, or Division III level are often paid traditionally middle-class salaries.
