Deion Sanders has become one of the most popular figures in college football, spawning full-year debates about the strength of Colorado football and a maximal transfer portal approach.

Naturally, some football fans closely pay attention to the life and times of Coach Prime.

Some of those fans noticed a change in Sanders’ demeanor over the last year. He looked different, appeared tired, and was losing weight. The message board speculation began.

Sanders – already a staple in places like Google Trends – became an even more searched figure, as internet sleuths tried to pry far enough into his life to solve a mystery that may or may not even exist.

Then, over the summer of 2025, Sanders revealed what was really going on.

Does Deion Sanders Have Cancer?

No, Deion Sanders does not have cancer, anymore. But he did earlier in 2025.

Sanders announced in July that he had been diagnosed with bladder cancer, but he had undergone surgery to remove his bladder. The cancer appears to have been eradicated with the removal of Sanders’ bladder.

Dr. Janet Kukreja, the director of urological oncology at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, declared Sanders to be “cured of cancer.”

Thanks to the brilliance of modern medical science, Sanders now has a new bladder that was created from a piece of his small intestine.

Deion Sanders Health Update

Deion Sanders may be cancer-free for the 2025 college football season, but he’s likely to face lingering health repercussions after a major surgery. He noted to the media that he doesn’t pee quite the same, and that fans should expect to see portable toilets on the field at Colorado this year for practices and games.

The third-year Colorado head coach has had other health issues in recent years, too. He has a history of blood clots in his legs, which has led to multiple surgeries throughout the last five years. He had two of his toes amputated in 2022.

Doctors found his bladder cancer during a regular screening of his lower body that was scheduled because of his history with blood clots.

Sanders, who turned 58 in August, isn’t quite one of the oldest coaches in college football. But in his late 50s, and having just faced a major health scare, it’s fair to wonder what the next move is for Coach Prime.

For now, Sanders plans to remain in his position as the head coach of Colorado football. It’d be hard to blame him if he made a different choice after this offseason – especially with his son Shedeur now in the NFL.
