David Bailey is an outside linebacker in Texas Tech’s multiple 3-4 scheme, which means he projects as an EDGE in the NFL.Â
Here are a few notes to consider as the NFL Draft gets closer.
David Bailey In the NFL Draft
Bailey is a major reason for the success of Texas Tech’s defense in 2025. After Texas Tech’s win in the Big 12 championship, Bailey had accounted for 13.5 sacks and three forced fumbles on the season.
He’s not as complete a player as guys ahead of him like Rueben Bain or Keldric Faulk. NFL teams may come to view him as more of a third down specialist who can make the biggest impact on obvious passing downs.Â
Because of that, and the elite players in front of him, he may be more of a mid-round choice for a team looking to pair him with another effective (and more complete) edge player.
David Bailey NFL Draft Projection
I am projecting David Bailey will be drafted in the middle of the first round by the Detroit Lions.Â
David Bailey Mock Draft
The Saints, Titans, Commanders, and Bengals all need edge rushers. Many of them just need defensive linemen in general. They’ll also be drafting in the top 10, where Bailey is unlikely to be selected.Â
It makes more sense that he’ll go to a team like the Lions, Ravens, or Bucs, who will be in the 14-to-24 section of the draft and will be looking to land an impact player that fixes a need.
Pairing Bailey with Aidan Hutchinson would be a splash play that would re-sharpen Detroit’s already-good quarterback pressure.
