Pat Shurmur is the offensive coordinator at Colorado.

Shurmur accepted the position as Colorado’s offensive coordinator when Deion Sanders first took the head coaching job in Boulder in 2023. It’s his first NCAA job since 1998.

Like most of Sanders’ staff, most of Shurmur’s coaching career was in the NFL. His previous OC jobs include the Broncos (2020-21), Vikings (2017), Eagles (2013-15), and Rams (2009-10). He was also head coach of the Giants (2018-19) and Browns (2011-12), and he served as the interim head coach of the Eagles in 2015 after Chip Kelly was fired.

Shurmur initially shared the OC role with Sean Lewis in 2023, but Lewis quickly left to take the head coaching job at San Diego State after one season in Boulder. That left Shurmur in full control of Colorado’s offense starting in 2024.

Colorado’s history of offensive coordinators is not great. Karl Dorell brought in Mike Sanford Jr. to run the offense for 22, but Sanford Jr. took over the team as interim head coach after Dorrell was fired five games into the season. Clay Patterson took over as OC for the remainder of the season and is now at Kent State.

Former Colorado wide receiver Darrin Chiaverini was a common presence as coordinator in prior years, working with both Dorell (2020-21) and Mike MacIntyre (2016-18).
