Before executing a bet in the college football spreads market, many bettors like to check the social environment on the internet to see if others like it.

Some bettors are looking for the wisdom of a crowd. If other bettors see a bet the same way, there is an increased level of confidence to pull the trigger on such a side.

Others might be looking for a contrarian approach. Some bettors like to fade the popular consensus.

Whatever your use, I’ve got fresh data directly from inside of the BetMGM online sportsbook for Week 6. These are the most popular college football bets, as of Thursday morning.

Florida +7 (vs. Texas)

With Florida trying to break a three-game losing streak, and Arch Manning struggling to execute the Texas offense this year, many BetMGM players are seemingly questioning why the Longhorns are laying a full touchdown on the road.

Vanderbilt +10.5 (at Alabama)

Vanderbilt is 5-0 and a great story so far. Coupled with the outright head-to-head win that Diego Pavia and the Commodores scored against Alabama last year, many bettors are feeling confident taking the bucket of points here.

Miami (FL) -4.5 (at Florida State)

Carson Beck is No. 2 in the Heisman Trophy odds table, and Florida State is no longer undefeated after last week’s loss at UVA.

To me, this seems like a risky number to lay on the road in Tallahassee. But many other bettors appear not to have the same hesitation.

Iowa State +1.5 (at Cincinnati)

Undefeated Iowa State is a nominal road dog at Cincinnati. Bettors just aren’t buying the Bearcats at this price.

Here’s my regularly scheduled caveat: Be very careful with unranked favorites hosting ranked dogs. That said, as I detailed in my Week 6 college football best bets column, I prefer a play on the total to a side.

Penn State -24.5 (at UCLA)

Bettors are buying the dip with Penn State against a dreadful UCLA team that’s already fired its coach.

Well, if you absolutely have to lay 24 points, there are probably worse times to do it.

Michigan -17.5 (vs. Wisconsin)

Wisconsin is listless on offense, and Michigan’s defensive front is quite formidable, ranking 13th nationally in EPA/rush allowed. I wouldn’t lay a number this big, but I get why others are interested.

Illinois -9.5 (at Purdue)

The public is back in on Illinois after last week’s USC upset, and Purdue’s secondary is pretty bad. Cover or no cover, I expect a big game from Luke Altmyer.

Ohio State -24 (vs. Minnesota)

With Ohio State’s defense torching opposing offenses, of course the Buckeyes are a popular target – even at big numbers. But this is another side where I prefer a play from the totals market, as detailed in my best bets column.

Mississippi State +14.5 (at Texas A&M)

Finally, some agreement! Mississippi State has flown totally under the radar, leading to this overgrown point spread here. I’m a little surprised the Bulldogs are this popular.

Texas Tech -11.5 (at Houston)

Texas Tech won at Utah as a dog, and now everyone and their brother wants to lay a big number with the Red Raiders.

They might be right, too – Texas Tech could be playoff-bound, and its powerful defensive line should wreck Houston’s offensive game plan on Saturday.
