Newly minted WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez defends his title for the first time against Anthony Yarde on Nov. 22 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Benavidez’s perfect pro record has made him the considerable betting favorite heading into the championship fight with -830 boxing odds. On the other hand, Yarde is going to be the overwhelming betting underdog with +600 odds. A draw result has odds of +2000.

David Benavidez vs. Anthony Yarde: Prediction

I predict a TKO/KO finish for Benavidez over Yarde, as he has the speed advantage and has been very accurate with his punches. Once Benavidez gets going and is in rhythm, he’s hard to stop because he throws a lot of combinations.

The defending champion likes to stalk his opponents and force them against the ropes because that’s where he thrives. Once he corners them, he lands several punches to the head and body, overwhelming them.

Yarde is also a forward-pressuer boxer, but when he’s pressed on the back foot, he becomes uncomfortable and is vulnerable to being hit. This was evident during his title fight with Artur Beterbiev, where he got rocked multiple times.

Benavidez’s hand speed will be the main difference, as Yarde relies on his power and rarely throws a combination, whilst Benavidez has more variety in his punches and is a notorious head and body hunter.

David Benavidez’s Recent Fight Results

Benavidez made his pro debut in August 2013 against Erasmo Mendoza and scored a first-round knockout. He won his first world title in September 2017 with a split decision win over Ronald Gavril to capture the WBC super middleweight belt.

He defended that championship multiple times before moving up to the light heavyweight division in June 2024, where he beat Oleksandr Gvozdyk by unanimous decision to win the WBC interim light heavyweight title.

Last February, he was challenged by David Morrell for the interim belt, but he successfully fended him off with a unanimous decision nod from the judges. Two months after that victory over Morrell, Benavidez was elevated as the WBC light heavyweight titleholder.

Anthony Yarde’s Recent Fight Results

Yarde is a national and regional boxing champion from the UK. He won several minor titles, including the BBBofC Southern Area light heavyweight title, the WBO European light heavyweight title, the WBO Inter-Continental light heavyweight title, and the Commonwealth Boxing Council light heavyweight title.

But he hasn’t won a major world boxing title, as he always comes up short in his bid to become one. Two of his three losses were world title fights. He currently rides a four-fight win streak with victories over Jorge Silva, Marko Nikolic, Ralfs Vilcans, and Lyndon Arthur.
