Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford: Prediction
I predict that Alvarez will secure a unanimous decision victory against Crawford due to the significant weight advantage, particularly given Crawford’s move up in division twice for this championship battle.
There isn’t much of a weakness for either fighter, with both of them proving that they’re pound-for-pound greats in recent years. They’ve swept all of the top contenders in their respective weight classes, but I still think that the weight difference will be the biggest factor.
If Crawford moved up slowly in weight in the lead-up to this fight, then it would be a different story because he’d have had much time to acclimate himself to the division. However, he lacks the necessary experience in fighting in the weight class, particularly in handling or absorbing power punches.
Sure, Alvarez may have declined a bit from the fighter he was two or three years ago, but still, he can bully “Bud” with his constant pressure and physicality. But the Mexican boxing megastar should be economical in using his energy to sustain his strength throughout the fight.
Alvarez’s punching power remains a threat, and once he lands clean, it would surely rock any fighter or even knock them out. One clean punch on Crawford, and the complexity of the fight will drastically change.
Crawford’s primary weapon in his arsenal is his fight IQ and how he operates surgically against his opponents, and he will certainly bring this in this showdown with Alvarez. However, when he’s hit with a signature Alvarez punch, I doubt he will engage much throughout the fight, as he’ll likely be hesitant going forward.
Canelo Alvarez’s Recent Fight Results
Alvarez is the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion, and he’s held the crown since 2021. In his last 10 fights, he dropped only one as Dmitry Bivol handed him a unanimous decision loss in May 2022 to spoil his attempt to become a light heavyweight champion.
During this stretch, the Mexican superstar defeated the likes of Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders, Caleb Plant, Gennadiy Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, Jaime Munguia, Edgar Berlanga, and, most recently, William Scull.
Terence Crawford’s Recent Fight Results
