The beginning of April is a pretty fascinating week on the men’s tennis tour.Â
After nearly a month of high-stakes matches in California and Miami, the tour schedule flips to clay season. Professionals trade in the fast hardcourt surfaces popular in North America and Asia for the slower dirt surfaces of Europe.Â
As such, the tour – and the tennis betting odds market – will shift to mostly European locations over the next few months, like Monte Carlo or Madrid.
The United States does offer one for the road, though. Houston is one of a trio of ATP 250 events this week, and it’s a popular tournament for Miami Open players who aren’t quite ready to depart the States just yet.Â
Houston Open tennis – not to be confused with Houston Open golf, which was just recently played – is the only ATP event on clay in the United States.Â
The women’s tour plays the Charleston Open during the same week. Because Charleston is a 500-point event, the women’s players in South Carolina are actually competing for a bit more money this week.
Still, the 2025 Houston Open has a total prize purse of $680,140. That includes a prize just north of $100,000 for the singles champion.
Not bad for a week’s work.
